Twenty years after its debut, Raffaella Giordano revives one of her intimate and radical creations for the 2026 season of ORBITA | Spellbound National Dance Production Center. She has entrusted young choreographer and author Stefania Tansini with reinterpreting her solo piece freely inspired by the Song of Songs, one of the most intense poetic texts in the Bible, which celebrates love with powerful and visionary images.
A student and performer with Carlson and Pina Bausch, Raffaella Giordano has been one of the leading figures in European dance for over thirty years. In addition to receiving numerous awards, she has collaborated on important theatre, opera and film projects over the years. Since 1994, she has directed the Sosta Palmizi Association, a reference point and support for Italian contemporary dance. Dancer and author Stefania Tansini is one of the most highly regarded choreographers in Italian contemporary dance in recent years. She develops her choreographic research based on a material and sensory investigation of the body as a place of transfiguration and tension, between form and decay, between control and abandonment, in constant dialogue between fullness and emptiness. She currently collaborates with Cindy Van Acker, Motus, Silvia Rampelli and Raffaella Giordano.
The performance at Spazio Rossellini is an exploration of the resilience and fragility of the body, and the persistence of desire and love. It does not follow a linear narrative, but is constructed through essential movements and a highly evocative stage presence, exploring the relationship between body, space and memory. In the difficult passage of the baton from one body to another, Stefania Tansini gracefully tackles this work of transmission, which becomes a mutual gift and allows us to discover a borderland where the vitality of a new story appears.
