The exhibition De arte pingendi. La pittura nelle carte del Monte di Pietà di Roma (De arte pingendi. Painting in the Papers of the Monte di Pietà in Rome), open in the spaces of the Fondazione Roma's Historical Archives (Palazzo Sciarra Colonna), aims to reconstruct and document the important relationship between the Monte di Pietà and art in general, especially painting, both in the form of direct commissions from the ancient Roman institution and as an integral part of its artistic and devotional heritage. The exhibition's title is inspired by Salvador Dalí's 50 Magic Secrets of Painting, a major volume in which the great painter praises the Renaissance masters - such as Raphael, Leonardo, Bramante, Palladio - as well as his contemporary and rival, Pablo Picasso.
The exhibition, in addition to documents from the archives of the Monte di Pietà and the Cassa di Risparmio di Roma, also features two very significant loans: Leonardo da Vinci's Treatise on Painting from 1540, from the Vatican Apostolic Library, and Baldassarre Castiglione's Letter to Pope Leo X, in collaboration with Raphael, from 1519, from the State Archives of Mantua, one of the most significant testimonies of the Italian Renaissance.
The exhibition is open to the public with free admission.
