It was built in the 20th century to a design by architect Ignazio Breccia: the laying of the foundation stone took place on 11 May 1968, while on 22 November 1969 it was inaugurated by Monsignor Ugo Poletti. The church was not consecrated until 16 December 1978 by Poletti himself.
The church is a parish seat, erected on 18 June 1964 by decree of Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara Paulus Div. Prov. Pope VI.
The building has a central plan; characteristic is the pavement made of sampietrini (cubic blocks of porphyry), reminiscent of the street paving of the city centre. The room converges towards the marble altar, the olive-shaped tabernacle, and a large bronze crucifix. The ceiling has seven grooves converging towards the presbytery, indicating the seven sacraments.
There is another place of worship in the parish complex, used as a weekday chapel.
