Chiesa di Santa Maria Stella Maris

The birth and growth of a Parish, as the Gospel says, can be compared to a small seed that, if cared for, develops and becomes a large tree. This was the inspiration of Father Papi Alberico, assistant parish priest of the Parish of S. Maria Porto della Salute, during a religious mission, preached by priests from Verona and proposed by the Pontifical Work Assistance. Commissioned by the parish priest, Father Barbieri Rinaldo, to take an interest in this activity, he proposed, in addition to Fiumicino center, two places of welcome, in Focene and Isola Sacra. The place of welcome on Isola Sacra was in front of the "Miramare" factory. A car chapel became a center of celebrations and reflections for those very few people (about 50) who lived in that deserted area without any comforts. At the end of each mystery of the meditated Holy Rosary, the missionaries cried out in prayer "Lord, give us a Church!". An idea that matured in the mind and heart of Father Papi. Very humble, fearful and painful beginnings, but carried forward with tenacity. The church, with all the works is complete. The area has developed a lot, today it has about 11,000 inhabitants. The Parish of Santa Maria Stella Maris in Lido del Faro di Fiumicino, already vicar curate of March 9, 1959, was erected on August 15, 1959 and recognized for civil purposes on October 7, 1960. It is entrusted to the congregation of the Sons of Santa Maria Immacolata. The spiritual care of the area was however begun already in 1958. In 1964 the construction of the rectory, the parish works and the church began; the latter was consecrated on November 20, 1976 by the Bishop Monsignor Andrea Pangrazio.
