The Church of Saint Lucy took shape in the early 1940s as a structure in the premises on Via Durazzo adjacent to the building at number 9 (currently the site of the Rubei wine shop). At the time it was used for prayer meetings, and with the growth of the faithful and the approval of the Diocese, construction began on the Clodia ring road where it is still located today.
As soon as it was built, it was the seat of a large Catholic Action group with numerous faithful in its retinue.
Overall, the structure has remained very similar to that of the time, although the original had columns and a dividing screen with a blue mosaic altar.
To the left of the altar where the tabernacle now stands was a chapel dedicated to the Immaculata.
The statue of the saint donated for the opening of the parish (now to the left of the altar) was placed in the centre of the right-hand nave.
A focal point for parish gatherings was the S. Lucia cinema (where the theatre is today) and the oratory, at the time divided into men's (at the parish ground) and women's (by the Ursuline nuns).
The founding parish priest was Don Ettore Cunial.
