It is part of the group of ten district fountains commissioned by the Municipality to the sculptor Pietro Lombardi, all inaugurated in 1927.
The elements that constitute it allude to the wine trade, particularly flourishing, then as now, in the numerous taverns in this corner of Trastevere: a barrel, a half must vat and two one-litre measures.
The fountain is set against a brick wall, framed by a travertine arch. It consists of a base supporting a "caratello," as the barrel used to transport wine in ancient Rome was called. A jet of water flows from the central hole into the must vat below. The barrel is flanked by two one-liter wine measures, from which the water flows.
