Santa Maria Immacolata a Villa Borghese

The building, which is located inside Villa Borghese near Piazza di Siena, was commissioned at the end of the 18th century by Prince Marcantonio Borghese, both to satisfy his devotion to the Virgin Mary and to offer his farmers the possibility of easily performing their religious practices.

The task of overseeing the transformation work was entrusted to the architect Mario Asprucci, who decorated the small church with fine ornaments.

In 1829, Prince Camillo Borghese, on the occasion of the expansion and renovation of many of his possessions, commissioned the architect Canina to carry out the renovation and completion of the small church, which had become necessary due to the deterioration and removal of the ornaments previously made by Asprucci.

On that occasion, the small church was decorated with frescoes by the painter Pietro Carrarini, who also did further works on other Borghese family estates at the time.
