Ponte Umberto

This bridge was designed by Angelo Vescovali and completed in 1895. It connects the Palazzodi Giustizia (Palace of Justice) with the medieval area of Tor di Nona. It wasin itially called Ponte dell'Orso (Bridge of the Bear) because it was situated near the ancient "Albergo dell'Orso" (Hotel of the Bear), where Dante Alighieri seems to have lodged on his pilgrimage to Rome on the occasion of the Jubilee of Pope Boniface the Eighth. Afterwards it was dedicated to the king of Italy Humbert I, who inaugurated it in person.
