The refined Rococo consoles, located in the First Gallery of Galleria Corsini, will undergo restoration to return to their original 18th-century splendour.
Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica will start the intervention thanks to the income collected from the sale of the Vino Civitas (Civitas Wine), a project resulting from the collaboration with the Associazione Civita, in partnership with the Tenuta Caparzo in Montalcino, to support the restoration of particularly significant artworks of the museum, following the agreement signed in 2019 and valid until 2021.
A formula already experienced with the Madonna del Latte by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, whose restoration, started last month, was covered with the 2019 incomes.
The precious consoles, of particular importance for the Corsini family, were commissioned by Cardinal Neri Maria Corsini and his brother Bartolomeo as part of the furnishings of the magnificent palace in via della Lungara, purchased in 1736. Elegance, luxury and sinuosity characterise these Rococo masterpieces, realised in the famous workshop of Giuseppe Corsini and his wife Lucia Barbarossa, extraordinary Roman engravers of the time.
