Two rooms in the Musei Capitolini, next to the Medagliere, dedicated to marmi policromi of the imperial age, from the collections of the Musei Capitolini and the Fondazione Dino ed Ernesta Santarelli.
The exhibition offers a view of the great number of stones imported to Rome, very important in the fields of economics, architecture and art.
The stone was a great influence in the organisation of the Empire and the appearance of the city through the ancient, medieval and modern ages, summarising a fundamental theme in the history of Rome.
On display are 82 polychrome fragments, two pairs of samples, one of which comes from the Capitoline collection, a selection of marble-cutting tools (bottega Fiorentini) and a document collection.
