Influential, passionate and an idealist: on 27 July, the ‘priestess’ of rock returns to Rome for an unmissable concert on the stage of the Circus Maximus, as part of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma’s summer season.
Born in 1946, the artist is celebrating her 80th birthday with a special show in which, accompanied by the Patti Smith Quartet, she will perform the songs that have made her a music legend, retracing her extraordinary career, studded with unforgettable songs such as Because the Night, Gloria, People Have the Power, and Dancing Barefoot.
Much loved by the public, Smith has always been a symbol of her generation and a versatile artist: singer-songwriter, poet, photographer, painter, and sculptor, she has explored all forms of art over more than fifty years, leaving her unique, charismatic and revolutionary mark on the international cultural and musical scene.
A true living icon, Patti Smith has received prestigious accolades and honors in the arts, including the Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2005), induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2007), the National Book Award for her book Just Kids (2010), the Polar Music Prize (2011), the keys to the city of New York (2021) and the Puccini Prize, awarded for the first time to a rock artist.
