It was founded, based on a design by architect Francesco Romanelli, in the late 1960s and consecrated by Cardinal Vicar Angelo Dell'Acqua on 30 June 1970.
The church is a parish seat, erected on 24 September 1962 by decree of Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara Cum in suburbana, and entrusted to the priests of the Company of Mary (known as Montfortans). It is the seat of the cardinal title of St Louis Grignion de Montfort, instituted by Pope John Paul II on 28 June 1991.
The exterior of the church is brick, with a row of windows running under the roof. The interior has a quadrangular plan, with chapels on either side dedicated to St Joseph and the Virgin. The high altar is dominated by a large polychrome stained-glass window, which gives light to the interior.
