The Great Dictator

Beyond the pop music proposal, which kicks off on May 30, the 2023 Caracalla Festival program opens on Friday, June 23, with the world premiere screening of the restored version of Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator, with music performed by the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma Orchestra directed by Timothy Brock.

It is the last chapter of a project born in 1999, which intends to stage all of Chaplin's films with the live performance of the soundtrack, the famous masterpiece has been restored by the Cineteca Nazionale di Bologna, while Timothy Brock, musical director of the "Association Chaplin", has restored the original score with music composed by Charlie Chaplin and Meredith Willson. Among these are also those for the famous scene of the dance with the globe by Adenoid Hynkel on music from Wagner's Lohengrin and those that accompany the episode of the Jewish barber on the Hungarian Dances by Brahms.
