KUKAI DANTZA “Oskara”

Kukai Dantza/Oskara-Foto: sito ufficiale dell'Auditorium PDM

The Oskara show staged at the Auditorium comes from a project that links the Kukai Dantza Basque dance company, founded in 2001 by the dancer and choreographer Jon Maya and the Catalan collective La Veronal, founded in 2005 by Marcos Morau, an award-winning choreographer trained between Barcelona, Valencia and New York and considered one of the most interesting artists of the Iberian Peninsula in the field of choreography.

Oskara is an installation work that incorporates some traditional aspects of Basque culture and its myths, from its origins to the present day, arriving, through atavistic and mysterious symbols, to enclose the long journey of human experience.

In the show, traditional Basque dances and modern language enter into profound resonance: crossed by Basque songs interpreted live or recorded, the dance is made up of a succession of “pictures” of enigmatic landscapes and human geographies; in a chiaroscuro atmosphere that emphasizes the dreamlike aspect, the dancers give life to an elegant technique, which evokes ancestral rites and the contemporary world.
