ASVOFF13 – A Shaded View On Fashion Film Festival

ROMAISON presents the world's first film festival dedicated to fashion, style and beauty, conceived and directed by the iconic Diane Pernet, journalist and digital pioneer.

Today in its 13th edition, the event arrives at the Casa del Cinema after the Parisian presentation, with three days dedicated to a selection of over eighty fashion films in competition, reviews, feature films, documentaries and in-depth talks, with free admission.

The event opens on Friday 10 December at 8.30 pm with the festival presentation, the announcement of this edition winners and a preview of the films screened in the following days. Amber Jae Slooten, founder of The Fabricant - one of the first digital fashion houses in the world - is the guest of the evening. The artist talks with Clara Tosi Pamphili about technology, fashion and virtual reality and introduces the short film review Digital Fashion: The Fabricant. After, at 10.30 pm, the screening of Saint-Narcisse, the latest film by Bruce LaBruce, artist, photographer and writer, considered one of the founders of the queercore movement and president of this year's ASVOFF jury.

The morning of Saturday 11 December continues with an overview of the fashion films in competition: from the shorts made for the big brands to the one dedicated to the eco-activist Greta Thunberg. At 9.00 pm, it is the turn of the national premiere (in original language) Steven Arnold: Heavenly Bodies by Vishnu Dass, current curator of the Estate dell'artista. Accompanied by the narrative voice of Anjelica Houston, the documentary tells the life and production of the legendary photographer and artist in Los Angeles during the 70s and 80s through original testimonies and footage.

On Sunday 12, at 11 am, it's time for the Students' film in competition. Following are a selection of shorts from Message is the Medium (Lisa Rovner and Alice Heart) and the screening of I Love My Mother by Francis Wintour. Then, at 2.15 pm, the documentary Cotton For My Shroud by Nandan Saxena and Kavita Bahl (in original language), a reflection on the issues of environmental sustainability and the dramatic impact of massive productions on local communities. At 4.00 pm, the meeting Valentino Des Ateliers Vite di Sarti e Pittori, dedicated to the homonymous short film winner for the Documentaries ASVOFF13 category, with Gianluigi Ricuperati, writer, essayist and curator of the project for the Valentino Maison, and Maurizio Cilli, author of the documentary, introduced by Alessio de' Navasques. The film introduces the Documentaries in competition, at 4.40 pm, followed by two thematic reviews: Fashion Moves, with directors, artists and scientists, dedicated to the relationship between fashion and social changes, curated by Alex Murray-Leslie; Black Spectrum, at 6.55 pm, an overview on the fiction of black artists of different origins, curated by Melissa Alibo.  At 20.10, in the original language, A Folk Horror Tale, the feature film conceived by John Galliano and directed by Olivier Dahan, with which the Maison Margiela Artisanal 2021 collection was presented.

The event marks the beginning of the collaboration between ROMAISON and Casa del Cinema, which is continuing with a feature films review dedicated to cinema and fashion, scheduled from 26 December 2021 to 9 January 2022.
