On Saturday, March 21, 2026, the Tiber Masquerade Party takes place, with the Tiberine Masquerade, on foot and by bicycle along the banks between Scalo de Pinedo and Castel Sant'Angelo, or on the water, in a canoe or other vessel. Demonstrating the shared themes and values promoted by the promoting associations, the exceptional presence of a delegation of ROMAN MASKS, composed of Meo Patacca, Nina, Dottor Gambalunga, and Pulcinelli Romani, led by TIBURTELLO, Official Mask of the GREAT ROMAN CARNIVAL, has been confirmed. For his first time, TIBURTELLO also courageously takes to the water, as an act of love towards the Tiber River, but above all towards his elusive beloved, LA BELLA ROMANINA, hoping to win her heart. The event, which is a fun and sporting event, aims to promote the Tiber basin area in Rome through fun, bringing the community closer to the river.
The #MascherataTiberina also aims to:
• encourage citizen participation in healthy outdoor activities for physical and mental well-being
• promote urban river regeneration practices
• emphasize the importance of the quality of the river environment and its waters, even in urban settings
In the water: The water event is accompanied by guides. The route is approximately 6 km long (round trip to Castel Sant'Angelo) and a maximum of 40 boats are allowed, with life jackets required. For organizational and insurance reasons, registration is required for those taking to the water at Scalo de Pinedo. On land: the walking tour along the banks is accompanied and suitable for families, with a Bimbitrek hiking guide and dedicated entertainment for children.
> All the information and the day's program
The #MascherataTiberina is organized by volunteers from the International Tiber Descent, in collaboration with ASD Roma Adventure, UISP Roma, Marevivo, and Gatti Regina Ciclarum, under the patronage of Municipio I Roma Centro. The event is part of the Three-Year Action Program of the Castel Giubileo-Foce Tiber River Contract.
Mask competition
A prize will be awarded to the most beautiful mask made from recycled materials that respect the principles of the circular economy: waste reduction, reuse, long-lasting use, and improved waste separation. Prizes will also be awarded to the best boys and girls' masks.
Instagram photo contest
A photo contest will also be held on Instagram. The carnival photo with the most "genuine likes" and the hashtag #carnevaletiberino will win. The prize is two places on the rafts for the next river descent.
The Tiberine Masquerade is organized by the International Tiber Descent Association and part of the local Tiber community.
