The 13th-century San Tommaso Tower, located in the Tor Marancia Park, within the VIII District, has been illuminated with new artistic lighting. On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the tower was illuminated in red, confirming Rome's support for victims of violence and renewing its commitment to prevention and raising awareness on these crucial issues.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, the Councilor for Public Works Ornella Segnalini, the President of the Municipality Amedeo Ciaccheri, and the CEO of Areti Raffaele De Marco.
The project is part of the works planned for Jubilee 2025, within the program dedicated to new technological systems for public lighting, environmental monitoring, and safety, defined and coordinated by the Department of Public Works and the Department of Infrastructure and Public Works. The work carried out by Areti lasted 16 days and cost a total of €50,000 to illuminate the tower with an artistic system consisting of eight 36W projectors (for a total of 288W), with a warm 2700K light that enhances the materiality of the masonry. The fixtures, recessed into the tuff block paving at the base of the structure, create a semi-grazing effect that gives the tower a three-dimensional feel and greater visual control of the area during the evening hours.
The LED technology with a warm 2700K light was used to highlight the tower's stonework, while simultaneously reducing energy consumption. Areti's goal, in fact, is to enhance Rome's immense heritage through light.
