Fifty years after his tragic death, Pier Paolo Pasolini, who was murdered on 2 November 1975 at the Ostia seaport, returns to life in his beloved Rome with PPP VISIONARIO. A 50 anni dall’omicidio Roma ricorda Pier Paolo Pasolini (Fifty years after his murder, Rome remembers Pier Paolo Pasolini) with a major multidisciplinary event and an important programme of events created to honour the memory, legacy and prophetic vision of one of the greatest intellectuals of the 20th century.
From poetry to cinema, theatre to civil and sporting engagement, the event explores Pasolini's work in a large-scale diffuse celebration that follows an itinerary linked to the places of Pasolini's vision and involves in particular the less central and more popular areas from Tor Bella Monaca to Garbatella, from Quarticciolo to Verano to symbolic places such as the Port of Rome and the Idroscalo in Ostia, the heart of tragedy and memory.
PPP VISIONARIO is a lively, choral dialogue between the city centre and the suburbs, a varied mosaic of artistic expressions with shows, concerts, readings, meetings, screenings, urban tours and sporting events, with the participation of the city's main cultural institutions and other local organisations and associations.
The rich programme features big names from the contemporary art and culture scene grappling with Pasolini's uncomfortable and fundamental legacy. Guests include: Sonia Bergamasco, Ascanio Celestini, Cristian Ceresoli, Enzo Cosimi, Marco Damilano, Rodrigo D'Erasmo, Elio Germano, Fabrizio Gifuni, Guido Harari, Filippo La Porta, Cristiana Perrella, Valentina Petrini, Massimo Popolizio, Galatea Ranzi, Vanessa Roghi, Martin Scorsese, Antonio Spadaro, Teho Teardo, Filippo Timi, Jasmine Trinca, Massimo Zamboni and many others.
The main events, which will soon be announced in detail, include a conversation dedicated to the relationship between Pier Paolo Pasolini's cinema and the Gospels, between director Martin Scorsese (via video link) and Father Antonio Spadaro; the Seventh Art will also be in the spotlight with a series of screenings and meetings at Nanni Moretti's Cinema Nuovo Sacher.
Among the numerous events scheduled until December, the Casa del Cinema has already opened to the public and the photographic exhibition Franco Pinna e Pier Paolo Pasolini – Viaggio al termine del Mandrione (Franco Pinna and Pier Paolo Pasolini – Journey to the End of the Mandrione) can be visited until 30 November.
The tribute to Pasolini's commitment to civil and sporting causes will see the Stadio dei Marmi “Pietro Mennea” host La Corsa di Miguel – Staffetta Pasolini on 31 October, and the PPP50 football tournament on 1 November, Pasolini Gioca Ancora (Pasolini Plays Again) in memory of the poet's great passion for sport, with the participation of the Nazionale Attori – a team founded by Pasolini himself, with Ninetto Davoli and Matteo Garrone among its players – the writers of Osvaldo Soriano International, the Nazionale Giornalisti (National Journalists' Team) and Campidoglio FC, a team made up of Rome city councillors.
On 31 October, between the Idroscalo in Ostia and the Port of Rome, the football match between the Nazionale Poeti and the Nazionale Giornalisti will be held, with a video link to Roberto Mancini and Fabio Capello.
