Opened at the end of March with a concert by the Roma Tre Orchestra in the Corsie Sistine of the monumental complex of Santo Spirito in Sassia, the Festival della Musica Sacra (Sacred Music Festival) organised by the Lazio Region on the occasion of the 2025 Jubilee aims to revive the tradition of religious music, promoting local excellence and contemporary composers, with a particular focus on artists under 35.
The festival calendar, scheduled to run until 15 October, was compiled by selecting over thirty project proposals thanks to a call for entries issued by the Lazio Region in December 2024, and includes a total of 155 events spread across the entire region, in Rome and in many other locations.
The artistic direction is entrusted to the Roma Tre Orchestra. The concerts, most of which are free of charge, include compositions from the great repertoire linked to the texts of the Catholic liturgy, as well as other musical pieces, both vocal or instrumental, that have a declared spiritual inspiration.
The churches involved in Rome include the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, San Teodoro al Palatino, Santa Maria dell’Anima, Santa Cecilia and Santa Caterina dei Funari.
