From 26 to 31 October, the splendid Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli hosts Stabat Mater, the show that closes Volti del potere, the 2024-2025 Teatro dell'Opera di Roma season, produced in co-production with the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in Antwerp, and De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam.
Set against the backdrop of one of the Eternal City’s most ancient and iconic churches, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's evocative work intertwines with Giacinto Scelsi's intense notes in a musical and spiritual dialogue that transcends the ages, with the direction, sets, costumes, and lighting by Romeo Castellucci, making his debut with the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.
On stage are two internationally renowned singers, the soprano Emőke Baráth and contralto Sara Mingardo, accompanied by the Orchestra del Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, conducted by Michele Mariotti, with dramaturgy by Christian Longchamp.
