From 10 to 12 October, Fabrizio Monteverde's ballet makes its national debut on the stage of the Teatro Olimpico, featuring the Junior Company of the Balletto di Roma in a new production created in collaboration with the Accademia Filarmonica Romana.
One of the most beloved ballets of the classical repertoire, reinterpreted over time by famous choreographers, Coppelia was first performed at the Paris Opera in 1870. It is inspired by the famous 19th-century story by German writer E.T.A. Hoffmann, “The Sandman”, from whose dark pages an exciting story of love, humour, and a kaleidoscope of evocative and passionate dances comes to life.
On stage, to the splendid music of Léo Delibes, a cast of 14 talented young dancers under the age of 21 from the Balletto di Roma perform Monteverde's production. The famous choreographer dresses Coppelia in red and leaves behind the 19th-century atmosphere, creating a ballet with a contemporary and youthful setting, in a comparison between sincere love and fictitious and illusory feelings.
