The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma presents an unmissable tribute to Pierre Lacotte, the renowned French dancer and choreographer who passed away in 2023.
In 1981, the extraordinary reconstructor of the repertoire presented a splendid reconstruction of the ballet Marco Spada. Forgotten for over a hundred years, it was created in the mid-nineteenth century with Joseph Mazilier's choreography to music by Daniel-François-Esprit Auber and libretto by Eugène Scribe. Lacotte's new version was first staged at the Costanzi Theatre, performed by great dance stars such as Rudolf Nureyev, Ghislaine Thesmar and Michaël Denard.
The ballet portrays the story of the nobleman Federici, his fiancée, the Marquise Sampietri, the beloved of Pepinelli, the captain of the dragoons, and Angela, daughter of the bandit Marco Spada and Federici's true love. Amidst tricks, romance and twists, the thwarted love between the protagonists triumphs when the bandit loses his life, revealing that the young Angela is not his daughter.
The production, staged with the historical reconstruction from 1981, sees on stage the Étoiles, the Principal Dancers, Soloists and Corps de Ballet of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and extraordinary guests such as Igor' Cvirko of the Bol'šoj Theatre and Iana Salenko of the Staatballett Berlin, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Teatro dell'Opera, conducted by David Garforth, with sets and costumes by Pierre Lacotte, choreography restaged by Anne Salmon and lighting by Jean-Michel Désiré.
