As part of the Sacred Music Festival 2025, an initiative of the Lazio Region, we would like to highlight this extraordinary concert at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore marking the 500th anniversary of the birth of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594), one of the greatest composers of the 16th-century Roman school, and considered an ideal model for sacred polyphonic vocal composition in the Roman Church during the Renaissance.
The concert marks the presentation of the CD released by the French label Arion, dedicated to the Regina Coeli Mass for four voices and other works. This is an unusual performance, performed with voices and instruments, following the concertato models of 17th-century Rome. Palestrina's Regina Coeli Mass is an example of his mastery of sacred vocal polyphony.
Ensemble Festina Lente conducted by Michele Gasbarro; organized by CIDIM.
