The absolute masterpiece of the Baroque repertoire, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, is on stage at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, for an unmissable event that celebrates sacred music in all its beauty.
The Messiah (HWV 56) is an English-language oratorio composed composed by Handel in 1741 with a text by Charles Jennens, taken from the King James Bible and the version of the Psalms included in the Book of Common Prayer. First performed in Dublin in 1742, the oratorio, after an initially modest public reception, gained increasing popularity, becoming one of the best-known and most performed choral works in all of Western music, bringing enduring fame to its composer, who has since been symbolically associated with this oratorio.
The oratorio is divided into three parts, recounting the coming of the Messiah, His Passion and Death, and His Resurrection. Famous for its “Hallelujah", it is a work that still resonates today with the solemnity of its choral works, the variety of its solo numbers, and the richness of its orchestration. The performance is entrusted to the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists, two musical groups that have enjoyed a successful collaboration for years.
