The concert, part of the Symphonic Music Season of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica presents two masterpieces: the Symphony called Jupiter by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Mass No. 3 by Anton Bruckner, directed by Antonio Pappano.
The Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551, also known as the Jupiter Symphony and considered a symbol of classical perfection, is the last of three symphonies composed in rapid succession during the summer of 1788 by the Salzburg genius. The work owes its fame to a combination of elements such as formal clarity, harmonic richness, and great vital energy.
The second part of the evening features Bruckner's Mass No. 3, written in 1868. It expresses the deep religious sentiment that animates the works of the great Austrian composer. He constructs a majestic cathedral of sound, combining a rich orchestration with a masterful use of counterpoint and the intense expressiveness of the choral passages. The unifying force of these two contrasting scores is the vitality of Antonio Pappano, conducting the first of his two concerts in the Academy's Symphony Season.
