It was built in the early 1980s to a design by architects Carlo and Anna Maria Bevilacqua and consecrated on 22 October 1983.
The church is a parish seat, established by Cardinal Vicar Ugo Poletti on 1 July 1976 with the decree Neminem sane. The titular saint is Maria Magdalena de' Pazzi, an Italian Carmelite and mystic who lived in Florence in the 16th century.
The church was visited by Pope John Paul II on 15 March 1987.
The church is a low modern concrete building, preceded by a porch, also made of concrete, resting on metal structures and covered with plastic elements. The building is flanked by a concrete pillar on which a tall metal cross is fixed.
The interior is circular, cavea-shaped, with a central skylight and polychrome glass windows all around. Everything inside is made of concrete, and the grey colour of the material contrasts significantly with the wooden finish of the pews, the lectern and the large crucifix, placed on the presbytery; an icon depicting a Madonna and Child hangs from the ceiling next to the altar, composed of a large concrete block where some recessed elements draw a cross.
