The exhibition at Villa Farnesina offers visitors a virtual journey into the art that was familiar to Dante and his contemporaries and of which the works of the great poet bear traces in various ways: from "Vita Nuova" to the "Divine Comedy". In fact, the exhibition contains both a series of works of art and artistic artefacts, and of everyday use, which Dante refers to or alludes to in his works.
In the exhibition we can admire the "Three-headed Satan" in the fresco detached from the episcopal chapel of Treviso, or the table of the "Madonna and Child of Castelfiorentino" (possible result of the collaboration between Cimabue and Giotto), which marks the transition between two pictorial styles that Dante certainly knew, or even wooden and marble sculptures that leave a visible echo in his pages.
Some of the pieces on display are certainly notorious, while others are little known to the general public, there are also pieces which are unknown even for specialists; some works, finally, have been specially restored for the occasion.
