The new eco-sustainable site-specific installation at Villa Aldobrandini

From 5 September to 4 October, an eco-sustainable urban art project is going to reinterpret the architectural space of Villa Aldobrandini, a small historic villa in the heart of the city with an amazing view over the Quirinale palace and the roofs of the Monti district.

Loggia Aldobrandini” is the title of the site-specific installation promoted by Roma Capitale and conceived by the artistic duo ROBOCOOP: starting from the history of the villa and the transformations that have modified, from the 16th century onwards, its appearance and its relationship with the surrounding environment, the duo offers a key to reading the current architectural and urban landscape in contemporary terms, confronting the past and adopting a creative and provocative approach.

The posters applied on the wooden protections of the 19th-century North West Pavilion suggest illusory perspective spaces, inspired by the art of the Renaissance and Roman Baroque; the bright colors recall modern architectural examples, such as lapis blue inspired by a steel building built in via Firenze during the 1980s. The “human” element is inserted in this imaginary setting: Bacchus and Ariadne, the two mythological protagonists of the beautiful and homonymous painting by Titian, now in the National Gallery in London but once among the most important works of the Aldobrandini collection.
