Patrimonium Appiae – Deposits emerged

Patrimonium Appiae – Depositi emersi-Foto: sito ufficiale del Parco Archeologico dell'Appia Antica

The exhibition at the Villa dei Quintili, curated by Francesca Romana Paolillo, Mara Pontisso and Stefano Roascio, displays over 250 archaeological finds - including amphorae, jewels, cinerary urns, capitals, vases, spatulas, cremated human bones, skeletons, ancient and medieval coins, playing dice -  coming from the territory of the Appia Antica Archaeological Park. The exhibition also presents works created for the occasion, in dialogue with archaeological materials, entitled "Art Crossing - Reactivating the genius loci" curated by Spazio Taverna (Ludovico Pratesi and Marco Bassan).

The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the extraordinary archaeological heritage of the Roman territory, crossed by the Via Appia, Latina and Ardeatina, already the subject of the first archaeological exhibition promoted by the Park directed by Simone Quilici. The materials, mostly unpublished and coming from deposits, were chosen on a topographical basis, following the ancient routes mile by mile, with a diachronic vision, from protohistory to the late Middle Ages, thus helping to strengthen the links between history, archeology and landscape.

The exhibition is the result of a century of excavations, together with the work of research and protection and proposes the archaeological contexts which have returned the material evidence useful for redefining the history of the settlements in the Roman countryside.
