Don Chisciotte

The Teatro dell'Opera hosts Laurent Hilaire's Don Quixote, a timeless classic ballet from the repertoire, which inspired the most famous choreographers - from Nureyev to Balanchine - revived by Gillian Whittingham.

Laurent Hilaire, former étoile of the Paris Opera and current Artistic Director of the Bayerisches Staatsballett, has created a colorful and comics, theatrical and cinematographic Don Quixote. The romantic setting features the musical direction by David Garforth, the scenes by Antonella Conte and Francesco Zito, who also signs the splendid costumes, and the refined lighting by Vinicio Cheli.
The result is lively, vital and cheerful, with the perfect combination of respect for tradition and a personal creative touch.

The ballet in three acts, after the novel by Miguel de Cervantes, sees four special guests: Isabella Boylston and Daniel Camargo, principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater in New York, Iana Salenko, principal dancer at the Staatsballett Berlin, and Osiel Gouneo, principal at the Bayerisches Staatsballett. On stage are the Étoiles of the Teatro dell'Opera Corps de Ballet, Alessandra Amato, Rebecca Bianchi, Susanna Salvi and Alessio Rezza, together with the principal dancers Claudio Cocino and Michele Satriano.

The music by Ludwig Minkus accompanies this incredible show in which Don Chisciotte, guided by the vision of Dulcinea, embarks on a series of adventures with the trusted Sancho Panza in a kaleidoscope of technique, grace and colour.
