10 days dedicated to swimming, diving and synchro, with an estimated presence of 800 sector operators, 100,000 spectators and 200 million viewers: from 11 to 21 August 2022, Rome will be once again the protagonist of international sport with the 36th edition of the European championships, a unique and spectacular event, as well as an opportunity to enhance the city’s sports facilities.

1,500 athletes from 52 nations will compete for 222 medals in the magnificent Foro Italico complex, home to numerous great championships in the past. A temporary pool will be set up in the nearby Tennis Stadium to host artistic and synchronized swimming events. The Federal Center-Polo Natatorio in Ostia will be the headquarters for the open water swimming competitions, while the dives from the great heights (for the first time included in the European program) could be held in the area of Castel Sant'Angelo, or in one of the many historical and spectacular areas in the city.

Rome will host the championship for the second time after 1983. The bid was strongly supported by the Italian Government, the City of Rome and the Lazio Region.
