Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este, two architectural jewels included in the UNESCO world heritage site list, host the second edition of Villae Film Festival - Quando l’Arte è in movimento, the festival dedicated to the relationship between cinema and art in all its multiple possibilities and forms of expression. A unique event in the Italian cultural panorama, the festival is organized with the patronage and support of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and the Lazio Region. The films, with free admission, are associated with meetings with directors, producers, critics, artists and curators to explore the language of the moving image, understand its suggestions and complexity in a constantly evolving world.
The movie festival has two different settings and programs. At the Pecile of Villa Adriana, from 16 to 19 September, the program will include films that, at least in part, were shot there, such as Titus by Julie Taymor, News from the Excavations by Emidio Greco and Dagobert by Dino Risi. From 20 to 27 September the location of the projections moves to the evocative atmosphere of the Gran Viale of Villa d'Este: here will be screened films whose directors are also artists represented by important art galleries and whose works are part of important museums or who have distinguished themselves in an artistic field other than cinema. The list includes therefore films such as Derek Jarman’s Jubilee, Peter Greenaway’s Eisenstein in Guanajuato, Matteo Garrone’s Tale of Tales, Andy Warhol's Lonesome Cowboys, or La ricotta, a short film written and directed by Per Paolo Pasolini.
