Some like it classic, the film festival at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, for its twelfth edition is back to offer the public a series of masterpieces from the history of cinema, to be rediscovered in theaters and on 35mm film.
Comedy remains the star of this year's program with some of its greatest directors, such as Frank Capra of The Matinee Idol, a silent film jewel presented in a historic restoration by the Cineteca di Bologna, or Woody Allen with Zelig, a masterpiece of New York genius. Tirez sur le pianiste, it is instead an early work by François Truffaut in which we find the lightness and irony of the first French Nouvelle Vague.
We also recall Clash by Night and Sabotage by Fritz Lang and Alfred Hitchcock respectively. The first, one of Lang's rarest titles and the second, belonging to the English period of the master of suspense and taken from Joseph Conrad. The program is completed by a pair of legendary names in auteur cinema such as Béla Tarr and Maya Deren.
Like last year, the usual formula is enhanced by the collaboration with the National Union of Italian Film Critics - Lazio Region Group, thanks to which each film will be introduced to viewers by a different critic, in order to better contextualize all the titles.
