Open House Roma 2022

Open House

The annual free event that celebrates design and architecture in the Capital is back: an extraordinary and unmissable opportunity to know, deepen and discover the city and its archaeological, historical, contemporary and iconic architecture among places of art, cloisters, Roman Domus, workshops and offices, study and research spaces, foundations, cultural academies, houses museum, hotels, private houses, and gardens.

Open House takes place during a weekend dedicated to the beauty of Rome with guided visits, tours, talks, meetings, exhibitions, and performances in 200 sites of all times, usually closed to the public.

The program includes iconic places - cultural institutes, representative offices and academies, such as the Egyptian Academy, the Danish Institute, Villa Medici - French Academy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation - museums and historic buildings, sites of scientific and cultural interest, including the Italian Space Agency ASI, the American Academy in Rome, the Auditorium della Tecnica, the Library of the Chamber of Deputies “Nilde Iotti” in Palazzo del Seminario, the National Fire Academy, and the John Cabot University. There is no shortage of more unusual locations, such as the Piramide Cestia and the Residence of the German Ambassador to the Holy See, real gems such as Casino del Graziano in Villa Borghese and Casa dei Crescenzi, and absolute news, among which the ferrocement pavilion by Pier Luigi Nervi and the Rectorate of Roma Tre University

The event celebrates its 10th extraordinary edition by proposing a series of themes that enrich the knowledge of the many Roman architectures open for the occasion. They range from Ostia, from Michelangelo to Libera, visits and tours of some of the most interesting architectures of the masters of the Modern in Ostia and Ostia Antica, to La Borgata; from Nuove Leve, a program of workshops, special visits and events dedicated to children, to La città in tutti i sensi, a project to promote access to the architectural heritage for people with visual and hearing disability. Focus also on the Italian genius with Ingegno Romano - inventions and solutions of the best engineers of the 20th century - and sustainability with Energia, a space dedicated to interesting Leed certified buildings.

The initiative is part of the Open House Worldwide international network, born in London in 1992. It stems from the idea of a group of architects and communicators oriented towards socio-cultural innovation, with the support of experts and professionals in cultural heritage as research doctors, architects, cultural operators, artists and digital communicators.
