Roma spelled backwards reads Amor, meaning love. Even in its name, Rome has therefore a richness of emotions and magical feelings. This is why it would have been impossible not to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special initiative, promoted by Roma Culture, the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage.
On 14 February, a rich and varied program of “story visits” is available to all Romans and tourists in love with Rome, to discover characters, anecdotes and unusual places in the city. From the revolutionary, boundless and overwhelming love between Anita and Giuseppe Garibaldi we find out at the Museo della Repubblica Romana to the passionate intrigues of Augustus' family in the archaeological area of the Teatro di Marcello up to love through art languages in the Museum of Rome.
In each place, museum and archaeological site, famous lovers and love stories will reveal in front of your eyes on a journey through the centuries. You will discover the love between the nymph Egeria and the second king of Rome, Numa Pompilio, in the shadow of the Baths of Caracalla and Piazzale Numa Pompilio and the passion that bound Napoleon to his Joséphine through the letters kept in the Napoleonic Museum.
There will also be many curiosities about this sweet feeling through an evocative journey of images at the Carlo Bilotti Museum and even about “bestial loves” at the Museum of Zoology.
