La Vaccheria, Rome’s new exhibition space

von 9 September 2022 bis 31 Dezember 2022

Among the wide avenues and monumental, rationalist-style architecture of the EUR district, and just a few steps from Fuksas’ visionary Nuvola, a new hub dedicated to art and culture opens in Rome. It is La Vaccheria, a historic “casale”, a farmhouse, ceded to Roma Capitale following the agreements of the EUR-Castellaccio Urban Program and managed by the city’s IX Municipality. After long restoration and renovation work it is now an extraordinary exhibition space of nearly 1,800 square meters, where archaeological artifacts recovered in the southern Rome area have also finally found a home.

The casale includes a large central body, once occupied by stables, with glass showcases and common spaces, such as a conference room, a refreshment area and a bookshop. A smaller two-story building houses offices and management, while an additional body is used for laboratories and attached services. The recovery and redevelopment of the spaces makes the casale a new place for gathering, sociality and culture that aims to become a reference for Romans and tourists.

Two projects will open the exhibition season: the exhibition “Flesh: Warhol & The Cow. Le opere di Andy Warhol alla Vaccheria”, with 80 works by the master of pop art that can be visited free of charge until 30 October; and “Sacro o Profano…?”, a selection of works created by professional and self-taught artists that show the link between territory and its history.
