The Festival des Cabanes, taking place in the gorgeous gardens of Villa Medici, presents four sustainable architectural pavilions, the “huts” (in French “cabanes”). The aim of the initiative is to occupy the historic Medici spaces of the Villa, whose project was developed by Ferdinando de' Medici at the end of the 16th century, with innovative works by architects, artists and researchers.
Specially designed for the Festival by the French architecture studios Dream, Koz and Wald, as well as by a group of students from Sciences Po's Masters in Political Arts (SPEAP) and the École des Arts Décoratifs, these lightweight wooden structures, often from from reused materials, they offer the public a new experience of the Villa Medici gardens, inviting them to rethink the question of sustainable and modular housing.
The highlight of the event is Saturday 25 June, with the "Nuit des Cabanes", which hosts a series of artistic, musical and culinary performances bringing together some of the most important international artists and thinkers and is also an opportunity to inaugurate the installation by the sculptor Jean-Marie Appriou in the gardens, as part of the new Artclub # 35 curated by Pierpaolo Pancotto.
Thanks to this event, as to others last year, the gardens of Villa Medici are confirmed as the key place for summer programming.
