Medfilm Festival 2024

The MedFilm Festival 2024 is held from 7 to 17 November in Rome and the novelty this year is the presence of a virtual room thanks to MYmovies ONE, with a selection of 18 titles including feature films and short films that can be viewed online from 10 to 20 November.

The Festival, the first in Italy dedicated to the cinematography of the Mediterranean and the Middle East in general, represents not only a journey that crosses all the shores of the Mediterranean, but above all a meeting point of European, African and Asian cultures. This edition, which celebrates the thirty-year anniversary of the event, also aims to be a starting point for reflection on the path taken from 1995 to today, for a festival that has been able to tell the last thirty years of contemporary history through cinema and audiovisuals. Professional meetings, masterclasses in universities, meetings with young authors and masters of cinema, literature and in-depth forums on crucial themes of our time are part of a program that has always been attentive to all aspects of the present.

Among the most significant titles of this year we remember the first two debut films of the Official Feature Film Competition, Boomerang by Shahab Fotouhi, Iranian artist and filmmaker and Who Do I Belong To directed by Meryam Joobeur, Tunisian producer, screenwriter and director who lives in Montreal; also worth mentioning Adam by the Moroccan director Maryam Touzani, from the Mediterranean section, The Eye of the Hen by Antonietta De Lillo, from the Perle section, dedicated to quality Italian cinema and finally Phoebe, Good Luck, Sara!, An Orange from Jaffa, Après le soleil, Valerija, Things That My Best Friend Lost, Bad for a Moment, Canary in a Coal Mine, Mango and Bye Bye Benz Benz, from the Short Films section. All films are screened in the original language with electronic subtitling in Italian.

The MedFilm Festival was born in 1995 on the occasion of the Centenary of Cinema and the Barcelona Declaration. The only Italian event specialized in the diffusion of Mediterranean and European cinema, the festival works to promote intercultural dialogue and cooperation between Europe and the countries of the southern shore of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. The objectives of the MedFilm Festival are the protection of human rights and intercultural dialogue; the education and training of young people in the socio-cultural and environmental fields, the fight against racism and xenophobia; the promotion and diffusion of European and Mediterranean culture.
