Pizza Awards 2019, Rome and Lazio in the limelight

Pizza Awards 2019
depuis 21 Novembre 2019 à 31 Décembre 2019

Water, flour, yeast, salt and time: it seems easy, yet the result varies incredibly depending on who makes the dough. The Pizza Awards Italia evaluates the quality of raw materials, seasonings and digestibility, taking into consideration attention to tradition, creativity, and respect for diet and food intolerances.

If Campania was one of the predictable stars of the event conceived by Fabio Carnevali in collaboration with Scatti di Gusto, the 2019 edition also saw Rome and Lazio among the great protagonists. The jury, composed of about 200 of the most authoritative sector journalists and Italian pizza experts, has in fact awarded two Roman pizzerias, with a leading position in the Italian top ten: Seu Pizza Illuminati, a few steps from Porta Portese, and La Gatta Mangiona.

Luca Mastracci of Pupillo in Frosinone, not far from Rome, won the prize for the best young pizza chef, while the best Roman pizza is that of 180 g. by Jacopo Mercuro and Mirco Rizzo in the Centocelle district. And, lastly, the two “Ambassadors of pizza in the world”, L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele and Sorbillo ai Tribunali in Naples, both have a Roman branch: Sorbillo in Piazza Augusto Imperatore and Antica Pizzeria da Michele in Via Flaminia, between Piazza del Popolo and the Auditorium Parco della Musica. The Neapolitan tradition is well alive in Rome.
