St. Patrick's Church in Villa Ludovisi (National Irish and American Church)

Chiesa di San Patrizio a Villa Ludovisi (Chiesa Nazionale dell'Irlanda e degli Stati Uniti d'America)

The church is located in the Rione Ludovisi, near via Veneto and is dedicated to the patron saint of Ireland. Built in 1908 on a project by Aristide Leonori, it is in neo-Renaissance style.

The façade, with Romanesque-Byzantine motifs, has a porch (small portico placed to protect and cover the main entrance of a church) supported by columns and an arched loggia. The interior has three naves, with a coffered ceiling.

The apse mosaic, from 1929, is by Rodolfo Villani and represents Saint Patrick preaching to the crowds. The image of the Madonna on the main altar dates back to the sixteenth century and depicts the Madonna delle Grazie.

The church of San Patrizio belongs to the College of Irish Augustinians who still officiate it and, since 2017, it has been the official parish of the Americans in Rome.
