Fendi for Fountains: the great beauty of the Acqua Paola Fountain

Mostra dell’Acqua Paola
from 4 December 2019 to 31 March 2020

Framed in the opening scene of the Great Beauty by Sorrentino, the Acqua Paola Fountain has returned to shine on top of the Gianicolo hill, thanks to the restoration financed by the Maison Fendi, with a renewed collaboration between public and private sector.

After the restoration of the Trevi Fountain and the Quattro Fontane Complex, the Fendi for Fountains project continues to enhance the artistic heritage of Rome, focusing on one of the things with which Rome has always had an important bond: the aqueducts, the fountains and the water, symbol of life and rebirth. The last restoration interventions have also involved three other important fountains: the Fountain of Moses in Piazza San Bernardo, the new Acqua Vergine on the Pincio hill, and the Fontana del Peschiera in Piazzale degli Eroi.

Each of these fountains has its history and contributes, at the same time, to tell the story of the city, from the 16th century to the 1940s. Different in terms of type and time of execution, they are endpoints of monumental Roman aqueducts dating back to the Roman Empire and later restored by the popes. The Fontana del Peschiera is instead of the immediate post-war period. The scenographic effect was guaranteed, more than by the architectural decorations, by the plays of water that now can be again admired in Piazzale degli Eroi, enhanced by the new lighting system with LED technology.
