A cultural ambassador of its country in the world since 1871, with the concert organized at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates the presidency of the Council of the European Union held by Croatia until June 2020.
In its 149 years of history and tradition, the Orchestra has had the honor of hosting famous soloists, such as Luciano Pavarotti, Ivo Pogorelić and Montserrat Caballe. On the stage of the Sala Santa Cecilia, the Orchestra plays for the first time with the violin virtuoso Roby Lakatos, known as the “devil’s fiddler”, a player of extraordinary versatility and charisma whose strength as an interpreter derives from his activities as an improviser and composer and who has performed successfully on every famous stage, including New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Tokyo’s Santory Hall, and the Sydney Opera House.
With him and his ensemble, two stars of the future of Croatian and world music: the young soloists Ivan Krpan, the first Croatian pianist to win the prestigious Ferruccio Busoni competition, and Mia Pečnik, who debuted with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of sixteen and has already performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York.
The program includes music by Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt as well as those of the most important Croatian authors such as Lisinski, Devcic, and Bersa. Conducting the Orchestra is the 27-year-old Dawid Runtz, who was chosen in 2016 as one of four conductors from around the world to study with Maestro Riccardo Muti in Ravenna, Italy at the “Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy”.
