Hundreds of hours of film projection, thousands of spectators, dozens of prestigious guests and important prizes, with an objective at first glance simple, but in times that are anything but simple: bringing culture back to the center of the Mediterranean, making diversity a value, understanding and be understood by everyone. These are the keys to the success of the MedFilm Festival, which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.
The silver wedding between cinema and the Mediterranean is celebrated, as in the past editions, with a series of films, previews, focus, and special events, hosted by the Cinema Savoy, the Macro Asilo, the Nuovo Cinema Aquila, the Apollo 11 and the Libraries of Rome. 94 films, short films, and documentaries invite you to look beyond your own shore of that sea that Homer called the “liquid road”, linking Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Many are the countries taking part in a festival that sees four main protagonists: Tunisia, Spain, Slovenia, Lebanon.
In addition to the Official section - Premio Amore & Psiche and the Out of Competition section, with “Il sindaco del Rione Sanità” by Mario Martone representing Italy, the program includes the international short film competition “Walk with women, together against violence towards the women”, the Lux Film Days, with free screenings dedicated to the European cinema, the “Le Perle” showcase focusing on Italian cinema and, lastly, Med25, with authorial testimonies from the archive of the MedFilm Festival. Elia Suleiman’s “It must be heaven”, Jury Special Mention at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, opens the initiative.
