Urban Police, the new regulation comes into force

Roma Capitale
13 June 2019

A new Urban Police Regulation has entered into force to guarantee decorum, safety, legality and to promote respect, both by citizens and tourists, for common goods, public spaces and the extraordinary artistic, historic and cultural heritage of Rome.

The new rules concern: the prohibition of bathing in historic fountains and their improper use, except for the traditional coin toss in some of them, such as the Trevi Fountain; “centurions”, skip the line, abusive sale of food and drinks on the streets; the transport of people on rickshaws with three or more wheels, also with pedal assistance or with an electric auxiliary engine, in the streets and squares of the historic center; the consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages and “Pub-Crawls”.

A special protection for urban decorum concerns the Unesco Site, the area of the city declared a World Heritage Site, and the sensitive places, such as schools, universities, museums, hospitals and parks.

The new regulation provides new sanctions, including the prohibition of access in some areas for 48 hours and, in case of recurrence, also a Daspo (banning order).
