One of the two is a talent from an early age, who is in demand the world over performing sell-out concerts wherever he goes. The other, an orchestra conductor with an impressive list of recordings to his credit and a so high profile to deserve the title of Sir.
Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director of Santa Cecilia since 2005, meets again Evgeny Kissin, a regular guest of the Accademia, on the stage of Auditorium Parco della Musica. Incredibly charismatic despite his shy temperament, the depth and poetic quality of his interpretations, and his extraordinary, seemingly innate virtuosity have earned the Russian pianist the admiration deserved only by one of the most gifted classical pianists.
Together with the Orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, and with the generosity and communication skills that distinguish his directions, Pappano pays tribute to Hector Berlioz 150 years after his death by directing a selection of his works: the brilliant Overture of “Benvenuto Cellini”, inspired by the local Roman color, and the “Fantastic Symphony”, the most eclectic, original and innovative work of nineteenth-century music.
The program of the evening is completed by the extraordinary lyricism of the “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra no. 2” by Franz Liszt, enhancing Evgeny Kissin’s dexterity and virtuosic qualities.
