Notre-Dame de Paris

A masterpiece of the modern repertoire marks the return on stage at the Teatro Costanzi for the pre-opening of the 2021-2022 season at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. Created by brilliant French choreographer Roland Petit and presented to the public for the first time in 1967, Notre-Dame de Paris brings together all the ingredients of a grand spectacle including dance, sets, costumes, musical scores, theatricality. Exceptional collaborations with artists of great personalities contributed to its realization, such as fashion stylist Yves Saint Laurent, set designer René Allio and composer Maurice Jarre.

Inspired by the 1831 novel by Victor Hugo, it tells in two acts and thirteen paintings the whirlpool of events centered upon Esmeralda, Quasimodo, the archpriest Frollo and captain Phoebus, a moving, passionate and tragic story that still conquers audiences of all ages. Reassembled by Luigi Bonino, Artistic Director of the Roland Petit Repertoire, the ballet is entrusted to the stars of the Roman company directed by Eleonora Abbagnato and to the talent of the Kazakh dancer Bakhtiyar Adamzhan playing the main role. The music of Maurice Jarre, on a recorded basis, was performed by the Orchestra of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma conducted by Kevin Rhodes.
