(Libiamo ne’ lieti calici, Act I, scene II)
Giuseppe Verdi's three-act masterpiece is back on the stage of Teatro dell'Opera in the production with the elegant direction by Sofia Coppola and the sumptuous costumes by the Maison Valentino.
La traviata is one of the composer's most loved opera, with the libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, inspired by the play La dame aux Camélias (1852) by Alexandre Dumas (son) and was initially titled "Violetta", after the main character.
The version, adapted to the anti-Covid restrictions in force in November, was born from an idea by Valentino Garavani himself and Giancarlo Giammetti, and marked, in 2016, the debut of the talented Sofia Coppola as an opera director, giving life to an extraordinary combination of Italian opera tradition and fashion and cinema glamour.
An international cast, with the direction of Paolo Arrivabeni, together with the Hollywood set design by Nathan Crowley, the Opera Chorus, directed by Roberto Gabbiani, the Corps de Ballet, directed by Eleonora Abbagnato, and the choreographies by Stéphane Phavorin complete the splendid production staged at Teatro Costanzi.
