The exhibition at the House of Goethe traces the life and work of Friedrich Noack (1858-1930), one of the first correspondent journalists from Italy for the Kölnische Zeitung (Cologne Newspaper).
Noack, known above all for the fundamental volume on the presence of German artists in Rome Das Deutschtum in Rom seit Ausgang des Mittelalters (Germanicity in Rome from the end of the Middle Ages, 1927), but also for his articles in the history dictionary Thieme-Becker, was also a writer, art historian and private teacher who lived in Rome between 1891 and 1915.
The House of Goethe has managed to trace his unpublished private legacy that has remained unknown until now, obtaining it on loan temporarily, on the occasion of the exhibition, from the author's great-grandchildren. On display watercolors, vintage photographs, manuscripts, documents and personal objects tell of this German scholar with multiple interests who loved the country that hosted him and, for this reason, has always been committed to making Italian culture known in Germany and abroad.
A journey back in time between the late 1800s and early 1900s, an era of great changes and artistic and cultural ferment.
