Monumental and spectacular, with its grandiose oval shape enclosed between two vast hemicycles and dominated by the ramps of the Pincio promenade: a new lighting system was installed thanks to the collaboration between Roma Capitale and Acea increasing the beauty and elegance of Piazza del Popolo, an important access to the city from time immemorial, of which it announces the artistic wonders with its expertly orchestrated spaces.
The light architecture project concerned in particular the obelisk, brought to Rome by Augustus and definitively placed in the center of the square by Pope Sixtus V. It features six new state-of-the-art, innovative and sustainable LED lights with precision optics. Among the interventions, also the maintenance of the lighting of the Fountain of the Lions, consisting of four tanks at the base of the obelisk, and of the other two fountains placed on the sides of the square, the Fountain of the Goddess Rome and the Fountain of Neptune. Here the old light points were replaced by forty modern LED projectors with a remote control system for quickly managing the system while reducing costs and energy consumption.
