Known in Rome as the Protestant Cemetery, it is located near the Pyramid of Cestius, the rear of which is visible from here. Even though it is a final resting place, the silence and the shade of the pine and cypress trees make it a pleasant spot for a walk.
Persons of all faiths and famous names are buried in this cemetery where the tombstones are to be found of Julius Goethe, the only son of the celebrated German poet, of German authoress Malvida von Meysenburg, English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, the founder and leader of the Italian Communist Party Antonio Gramsci as well as English Poet John Keats and his friend Joseph Severn.
